“And, perhaps most significantly, the original draft did not have Spock grabbing Kirk by the arms and shrieking “JIM!” while broadly grinning. In the final draft, Spock wipes his tears on Nurse Chapel’s shoulder while Kirk gently chides him: “Come now — we mustn’t let our emotions run away with us. Be a man, Mister Spock — be a man.”
