I have spent the last two weeks increasingly irritated with (what has seemed to me) the dramatically alarmist attitude about the shit that’s going down with tumblr but….damn.
Like, I still don’t think it’s over. I still don’t think this is the end. But that’s a far larger speed bump that I anticipated. Tumblr, what the fuck.
I’m considering going back to DW or LJ, but as I was saying yesterday, an Ao3 based social platform would kick ass. I’m really tired of packing & moving every X years, ffs.

Wow. I remember way, way back in the day when one of the services (CompuServe? AmericaOnline? one of the ancient ones) banned words and ended up inadvertently banning things like breast cancer survivor groups because they contained the “pornographic” word “breast”. My only theory on how “chronic pain” is banned is (sadly, like some actual doctors) they’ve assumed chronic pain is just an excuse to access drugs or something.
Wet? Well, yes, it’s going to turn up in sexual contexts, but seriously? I thought we’d learned this lesson decades ago. Like, even if we wanted the site to turn into a Sunday-school zone, banning searches like “chronic pain” and “wet” is not the way to go about it.
Also, I never imagined Tumblr of all places would end up going all Puritanical.
