Highlights from the .txt doc in which I kept up running commentary on all the fic I read in 2003:
- My weirdly strong opinions about calling f/f pairings “slash”
- That I wrote “at least” Andrew wasn’t calling Warren “daddy” in one presumably too kinky for me fic but then added “but I guess that could be fun”
- “Wait…Xander has a good eye? When did he get a BAD eye?”
- “This whole thing is very well written, but this has got to be the WEIRDEST excuse for gay sex that I have ever seen.” (Whatever it was…I guarantee it is no longer the weirdest excuse I have ever seen)
- How many times I paused in the middle of reading a sex scene to say “WAIT…are they using condoms?”
- My Star Trek renaissance (“I feel so … connected. To the root of all slash. THIS was it, this was the beginning! I feel like I’m discovering my ancestral roots. It’s just so…exciting.”)
- Apparently, people being able to tell I’m gay is “peaches and cream to me”
- “This is not only good slash, this is bloody hilarious slash. 1970s Snape opening up to Hermione, thinking she’s a house elf. Bloody Hell.” (I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FIC SINCE 2003 – WHAT WAS IT??)
- Listing all the adjectives I didn’t think should be applied to cocks
- Discovering rimming: “EWWW! Squicked, squicked, squicked. Ew. Unsanitary. Very, very unsanitary”
- Going from a Xandrew skeptic to a true believer over the course of, like, three notes
- The fact that the Grantaire/Enjolras dynamic I prefer has apparently not changed in 13 years
- “No one who’s worried about Skywalker’s virginal image would accidentally stumble on NC-17 Luke/Jabba slash, fool.”
- I really, really was not into Spock/Uhura which is honestly still the case (I went really hard on ‘shipping Chekov/Sulu though)
- “McCoy is my baby. In every way. Except the sexual way. And the fruit of my womb way. So, in only about one way, really.”
- The fact that “digivolve” was a current reference
- Me rolling my eyes at a character who thought they were uncool for not having kissed anyone at 16 but then, to be fair, adding, “Ignore the fact that I’m 14 (15 in nine hours) and I’ve made out.”
Anyway thank you for sitting through this presentation on my 9th grade self, pls travel back in time and tell me that Star Wars and Star Trek and a new HP book would be some of the biggest cultural touchpoints of 2016 (and also that I would fall down a black hole of Les Mis fic at the same time)
