Looking at Fanlore wiki though and I’m amazed at just how DATED so much of it is??? Like it feels so bizarre to jump from a page on recent drama with some fairly nuanced discussion and valid discourse on marginalized groups and fandom to like, a page on straight girls and slash fic that tries to defend fanfiction but happened so early on that it just ignores how gay fanfic written by straight girls for straight girls tends to exclude actual gay people and overall comes off as REALLY REALLY CREEPY.
And there’s so much emphasis on FANFICTION and like, I get that that’s were fandom history is, but something about it just feels… wrong??? Like maybe I’m just used to tumblr offering a much more BALANCED variety of media but so much of the past discourse it catalogues feels like some sort of fanfiction cult like holy SHIT past fandoms, learn to chill.
A wiki is user created. It needs people to add content. Imagine tumblr if only a few people cared to create posts. Just endless reblogs of the same 100 posts and all you’d see would be Stucky and lots of cat posts. The beauty of Fanlore is that it allows even the smallest fandom or event to be documented (it does not require that the page “be notable and important” and it allows PPOV (Plural Point of View = multiple opinions = no one single fandom history perspective).
So jump in and add newer content.
