It’s funny, the Roddenberry Foundation asked for a summary of the exact same thing at the various cons they’ve been part of so far; how did you discover Trek, and what does it mean to you?
In short, Star Trek is one of two things/fandoms that’s helped me through some of the rougher patches of the last ten years or so of my life. I’d essentially known of Trek since I was a kid, having grown up with TNG, mostly, but when they started broadcasting the TNG movies in preparation of the 2009 movie, that’s when I got back into it for real.
Unlike some other fandoms and materials from during my time here on Tumblr, I’ve not outgrown Trek (i.e., while I’m critical of it, there’s too much good about it for me to discard it entirely :D). I love the other fans I’ve met here; I think the vast majority represent what Star Trek really is about - IDIC!
