literally what is going on all of a sudden with everybody and their grandma trying to police what people are shipping?? like?? what HAPPENED???
To be honest shipping wars have been happening in fandom forever.( Louisa May Alcott had to deal with shippers demanding she pair Jo with Laurie) It’s in the past few years a certain subsection of fandom have decided to use accusations of abuse and pedophilia against ships they don’t like. Either out of jealousy that ship is more popular than the one they like. Or because they’re just trolls and bullies getting a thrill out of harassing people. Report and block them and move one with happy shipping.
What happened is that fandom is no longer homophobic enough to fall for “HDU ship slash?! It’s degrading to the characters!” or in love with TPTB enough to fall for “HDU ship non-canon pairings?!”, so antis have moved on to rhetoric they think is more unassailable: “You’re a racist/nazi/pedophile/abuser if you ship [x]!”
But it’s still the same “Because I said so!” argument we’ve been having for decades.
