fandom meta
Hello all,
Next semester I’ll be teaching a small seminar class on fandom for the first time, and am currently doing research to put together the reading list for the course.
One of the difficulties of fandom as an object of study is that a lot of the best essays and meta analysis happen in places like LiveJournal, Tumblr, and other non-indexed sites that can be difficult to search for and track.
So! If there is a great blog post, comment thread, or other meta analysis or exchange that you know of that addresses topics such as:
- representation or lack thereof in fandom and fanworks
- personal expression of identity or experience in fanwork
- fan wars or other major fandom community events or upsets
- relations between fandom communities and the creators of the works that inspired them
- personal meaning or value of fandom and/or fandom communities
- specific fanworks that had a major impact on a fan community
- interpretation or discussion of the meaning/relevance of “canon” in relation to fandom
please send me a link!
Thank you :)
