The reality is that there is a hierarchy of acceptability [in both popular and fandom culture], and it ranks men over women, straightness over queerness, and art and cosplay over fic and everything else. Allowing that to rule our fandom lives destroys what is best about fandom, especially the parts that are particularly female-centric.
