when you’ve been in a fandom so long you no longer care about the dramas

When you’ve been through enough enough fandoms to ignore the same drama over and over again.

OMG a million times this! Especially the second one. The same bullshit starts up in every fandom given enough time. I just let it pass me by.

When you’re just doing your own thing and trying to have a good time but unexpectedly wander into the drama and now you’re just trying to avoid and survive it.

I’m always the one earnestly trying to explain why it’s silly to re-enact the same drama from HP fandom circa 2003 or fight that fight we’ve been having since early zine fandom–even though all that ever leads to is people getting huffy and wanking twice as hard. I just can’t help myself.

It’s like every couple of years a new generation has to invent shipping wars.

And kinkshaming and the many ways of justifying liking problematic things while shaming other people for sharing your taste and dogpiling people who disagree with BNFs and dogpiling BNFs on every slim pretext because they remind you of The Mean Girls in High School. Yadda yadda.

But I guess most of those are just cover for shipwars when you look closely.

I’ve definitely had it up to here with bullying on Tumblr though. It was bad on LJ, but now it’s even more intense and the only valid rhetorical strategy is an appeal to emotion–never mind logic, facts, or history. (Then again, it gives me joy to see so many other people on Tumblr speaking up about the same thing and being interested in history, so maybe this is just rose-tinted glasses and LJ was equally bad.)
