Considering that women in gaming receive death threats, that Steven Moffat of Doctor Who talked about how women are only now discovering Doctor who and there weren't any female fans during classic Who days, and how every day we hit new posts from guys talking about how women are "ruining" gaming, scifi, comics, and other genres where women have been uberfans ALL ALONG, how pay and harassment and abuse and erasure of women and PoCs are predicated on fandom amnesia, t's not just academic.
