If you, like me, have been online for a decade or longer, then likely you’ve got at least a working familiarity with the world of online media fandoms: communities created to discuss and celebrate TV shows, video games, books, and other constructed cultural universes. But while you may have seen an AMV or three (or twenty, or…), you may not know as much about the communities that form around “vidding,” the general practice of setting clips from beloved shows to music. “Here’s Luck” is a vidder that explains here how she ended up getting really into vidding, and gives an explanation of what it generally is as a practice. Here’s Luck talks about the vidding community and it’s connection with feminism and the pre-internet history of remix videos. It’s informative and gives a little information about history about it.
